STATEMENT

Since 2015 I have been infatuated with woven structures of lines going under and over, whether I use paint, pencils, or yarn.  The ideas of covering and protecting but also the burying of what lies underneath.  My blanket formations contain lacy or tight shards of fragments which are stiff, unyielding, and no longer represent a safe and warm place to hide under.  Some areas are very dense in application where threads are very close together so little light can penetrate through the spaces.  In contrast the lacy open areas create nuanced shadows that bounce and reflect off the walls.  The assembled thread coverings contain a symbiotic relationship between yarns, colors, patterns, surface textures, light and shadows.  My woven sculptures investigate memories of destruction, loss, covering up of truths, a hiding place, being alone with one’s thoughts, and notions of beauty in relation to the fragility of life and death.  A return to a conflicting state of being vulnerable and human.
